Parish Information

Saint Peter and Saint Paul, Alta Loma, was originally formed from St. Joseph Parish, Upland. The first Mass of the new parish was celebrated on September 20, 1970, in what was then the rectory on Alta Loma Drive and Hellman Avenue.

At first Sunday Masses were held in the Sweeten Hall in Rancho Cucamonga. Later weekend liturgies were moved to the cafeteria of Carnelian Elementary School in Alta Loma, and still later, in Alta Loma Elementary School. Then the parish acquired its present location and celebrated its first Eucharist on May 27, 1973.

The Parish Center was dedicated by Bishop Leo T. Maher of the Diocese of San Diego and the first Mass held there was on Thanksgiving morning, November 27, 1980. The new church was later dedicated by Bishop Phillip F. Straling, first chief shepherd of the Diocese of San Bernardino, created just two years earlier.

St. Peter and St. Paulโ€™s new John Paul II Pastoral Center – Shirley Leggio Building – was completed in January 2009. This 17,000 sq. foot building houses our Youth Center, Religious Education classrooms and Parish Offices. The parish community is very excited about this wonderful addition that will service their growing parish family.

Saint Peter and Saint Paul Parish currently serves the primary communities of Alta Loma, portions of Etiwanda and Rancho Cucamonga. Originally numbering 200 families, the parish has grown to more than 5000 registered families.
